Playing a U.S. Open Course - Pay, or Wait?

From Shankopotamus:

"Next week's U.S. Open returns to Bethpage Black, a municipal course renowned for low fees but overnight waits (and more) in order to play it. Golfers do it, though, just to be able to say they've played an Open track. They could do the same thing, though, if they bucked up to play Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines or Pinehurst. Which would you rather do, and why?"

Aberdeen Country Club will take you into the game of golf in the true Scottish tradition. All three nines are reminiscent of those early days of golf with the "Meadows," "Highlands" and "Woodlands" nines. Tucked among towering hardwoods and the Waccamaw River, this golf course features extensive mounding, wide landing areas, and lush bermuda greens. With 27 holes there is always a chance for an "extra" 9 that will extend your enjoyment.

Liked the clubhouse and pro shop.

Rough around the greens made it tough on me.

Considered one of the most difficult golf courses on the Grand Strand, this Jack Nicklaus-designed masterpiece was built to challenge even the most adroit golfer. Formidable in every feature, Long Bay displays countless large man-made mounds, a demanding 137 slope from the championship tees (127 from the ladies), handsome but deceiving par-3 holes and bottomless bunkers. Hailed as "one of the Strand's most difficult," only truly valiant and patient golfers need apply.

Played here Thursday the 25th, a group of 52. The staff was friendly and professional, got out and going fast. The course is like a day at the beach, lots of sand, tough, and fun. The greens were recovering (from being aerified), but very playable. Our golf group gave this course a solid 8.
